皆瀬川の伏流水であるヤマモの仕込水を提供する自然竹の“筧（かけい）”を庭園入口に設け、“蹲（つくばい）”に水を落としていきます。仕込水が“蹲”に注ぎ入れる音は庭園に風情を与え、岩崎地域で最も川に近いヤマモの町内である栄町の豊かさを感じることができます。この水の豊かさから、創業者・茂助は土地の産業を見出し、四代目・彦四郎はその想いを水神の庭に込めました。

YAMAMO GARDEN OPENING PROJECTは、新たな水の流れとそれに付随したルートを作成し、新旧和洋を織り交ぜたハイブリッドな庭園を目指しています。ヤマモの庭園は本来、近親者以外踏み入れない私的な庭として四代目が作庭したものでした。時代背景を映した歴史的なルートはそのままに、現代に広く皆様に開放するルートを私たち六・七代目の時代に設計し、混ぜ合わせたものがこの度の庭園となります。時代は違えど、作庭の根幹にあるものが水の恵みであり、歴代続く私たちは、土地に合った恵みを大切に用い、製品として表現をしていきたいと考えております。創業者・高橋茂助から続く高橋家の物語を現代まで引き継ぎ、これからも継承していきます。私から公、過去から未来へと向かう庭園の取り組みは、まだまだ続いていきます。

６月２４日、秋田魁新聞で秋田県内の若手を取り上げた人気連載「萌芽の風」にて七代目・高橋の対談が掲載されました。連載の締めくくりとして、過去に登場した若手が異業種で対談するという企画でした。対談の中で、これからの秋田の未来について「数字の上で人口減少が続いても、面白いヒトやモノの密度が濃い県であれば、体感的には豊かに感じられるのではないか」と申し上げました。来るべき未来に向かい、多くの若い力が行動を起こしています。ご一読いただければ幸いです。
