桜が散り、ようやくあたたかさを実感するころ、
木瓜の花が見られるようになる。
庭に咲く木瓜は、冬に雪の下に埋もれてしまうため、
真っ直ぐに立ち上がり咲くことはない。
その咲き方は言葉で表すなら、“風に流されながら咲く”という感じだ。
無数の小さな花が、寄り添うように咲き、
それが真っ直ぐではないから、余計にけなげに思える。
